The Institutional Name of Compassion
Darülaceze, founded in 1895 by the will of Sultan Abdülhamid II, is a public social care institution dedicated to supporting people with a wide range of care and support needs. Established to help the most vulnerable members of society live with dignity, Darülaceze was designed not merely as a place of shelter, but as an institution built on compassion, solidarity, and social responsibility. Since 1895, it has provided a safe and supportive home for thousands of older adults, persons with disabilities, children, and people in need of care, while delivering healthcare, daily care, and rehabilitation services.
Today, while preserving its historical mission, Darülaceze continues to develop its services in response to changing social and care needs. Across the Historic Okmeydanı Campus and the Darülaceze Arnavutköy Social Life City, it provides an integrated range of care, healthcare, rehabilitation, education, and social inclusion services.
While preserving its historic legacy, Darülaceze continues to shape the future of social care through a sustainable, modern, and high-quality service model.
Our Service Structure
24/7 care & healthcare
Today, the Darülaceze Presidency operates under the Ministry of Family and Social Services and provides services at two locations on the European side of Istanbul — the Okmeydanı and Arnavutköy campuses. All clothing, nutrition, accommodation, healthcare, and care needs of the residents staying at the institution are met, and services are delivered on a 24/7 basis.
Rehabilitation & psychosocial support
For health conditions requiring advanced examination and treatment, coordination is ensured with hospitals; at the same time, rehabilitation programs accompanied by psychologists and volunteers support residents’ integration into social life.
Social Inclusion & Volunteering
Extending from adult care blocks to children’s units, from specialized healthcare services to volunteering programs, this structure aims to offer not only care, but a dignified and productive life.
